Hailed as “pushing past the limits of the sound barrier” and “pulling out sweet music from only the air” ([art]seen) Jordan Smith is an international performer and teacher in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Windsor, Canada. Jordan can be found performing with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony. As a teacher, Jordan operates and maintains a private studio which provides a safe, inclusive and competitive environment. His students can be found in honor bands around the state, Michigan Youth Ensembles, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Interlochen Arts Camp and MSBOA All-State ensembles. In addition to his private teaching, Jordan has also functioned as a Graduate Student Instructor at the University of Michigan where he taught Flute Methods, non-major flute lessons, and masterclasses. Jordan also serves as an MPulse teaching assistant held at the University of Michigan and guest instructor at Central Michigan University where he taught masterclasses and coached chamber ensembles. He is currently Instructor of Flute at the Flint School of Performing Arts and Special Instructor of Flute at the University of Windsor.
Jordan has been the recipient of First Prize for the Collegiate Solo Competition with the 44th Army band in Albuquerque, NM in 2017. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, Master of Music and Specialist in Music degree from the University of Michigan, and has studied at Interlochen Arts Camp. His primary teachers are Amy Porter, Joanna Cowan White and Alexa Still.
